Block Paving Driveway Installation – Preston
This project involved the full renovation of an existing block paved driveway in Preston. The original driveway had become tired, uneven, and overrun with weeds, detracting from the property’s appearance. The goal was to replace the old paving and create a fresh, durable, and visually appealing surface that would revitalise the front of the home.
Before
The existing driveway was paved with faded red blocks that were heavily infested with weeds and moss. The surface had become uneven over time, and the overall appearance was worn and dated, negatively impacting the homes kerb appeal.
Uplift & Site Preparation
The first step was to lift and remove all of the old, worn-out block pavers from the front and side of the property. The existing sub-base was then assessed and re-levelled where necessary to ensure a solid foundation.
Membrane & Bedding Course
A new heavy duty geotextile membrane was laid across the entire area to suppress weed growth. This was followed by a screeded layer of sharp sand, creating a perfectly level and consistent bed for the new pavers.
Block Paving Installation
High-quality brindle block pavers were laid in a traditional 45-degree herringbone pattern. This classic design is known for its strength and interlocking properties. A smart, contrasting border was created using charcoal block pavers to frame both the main driveway and the long side path.
Finishing & Compaction
Once all the blocks were laid and the necessary cuts were made, kiln-dried sand was meticulously brushed into all the joints. The entire surface was then compacted with a plate compactor to lock the pavers tightly in place, ensuring a robust and durable finish.
Conclusion
The finished driveway is a complete transformation. The tired, weed-filled area has been replaced with a smart, contemporary surface that is built to last. The rich brindle tones and the sharp charcoal border create a striking visual that complements the red brick of the house perfectly. The renovation has not only solved the practical issues of weeds and unevenness but has also given the property a major boost in kerb appeal.
