This project involved the complete transformation of a large garden area into a stunning, high-end block paved patio using Tobermore Sienna granite aggregate paving. The client wanted a durable, low-maintenance outdoor space that could be used for entertaining, seating, and everyday enjoyment while enhancing the overall appearance and value of the property.
The finished patio features a beautifully flowing curved layout, precision edging details, and a contemporary granite aggregate surface that provides excellent grip, long-term durability, and a premium visual finish.

This project showcases a dramatic transformation from an unused garden space into a stylish, functional outdoor living area. The curved layout and granite aggregate finish deliver a premium appearance while providing long-term durability and minimal maintenance.
1️⃣ Site Clearance & Excavation
The existing garden area was fully cleared, including the removal of old surfaces, soil, vegetation, and any unstable materials. Excavation was carried out to the correct depth to allow for a strong sub-base, bedding layer, and block thickness.
Ground levels were carefully shaped to ensure correct drainage falls away from the property and surrounding structures.
2️⃣ Ground Stabilisation & Membrane Installation
A heavy-duty geotextile membrane was installed across the entire patio footprint to prevent ground movement, control weed growth, and separate soil from the foundation layers. This significantly improves long-term stability and surface performance.
3️⃣ Hardcore Sub-Base Installation
A reinforced Type 1 MOT hardcore sub-base was installed and compacted in layers using mechanical compaction equipment. This creates a strong foundation capable of supporting regular vehicle traffic while maintaining consistent levels.
4️⃣ Edging Formation & Layout Setting
Edging restraints were installed to define the curved perimeter and lock the paving in place. Accurate setting out ensured smooth flowing curves and clean lines that enhance the visual impact of the finished patio.
5️⃣ Sharp Sand Screed Layer
A precisely levelled sharp sand screed was installed to create a smooth bedding layer for the paving blocks. This ensures perfect block alignment, consistent surface levels, and excellent final presentation.
6️⃣ Block Paving Installation
The patio was laid using Tobermore Sienna granite aggregate blocks, selected for their modern appearance, slip resistance, and long-lasting durability. The natural granite aggregate finish creates a textured surface that looks fantastic while remaining practical for everyday use.
Careful attention was paid to joint alignment, curve accuracy, and consistent spacing to achieve a flawless finish.
7️⃣ Jointing, Compaction & Final Finish
Once the paving was laid, kiln-dried sand was brushed into the joints and compacted to fully lock the blocks together. The surface was then cleaned and inspected to ensure even levels, tight joints, and a professional finish ready for immediate use.
