double natural stone patio 04

Project Overview – Double Natural Stone Patio Installation

We recently completed a stunning double patio installation using high-quality natural stone, transforming this outdoor space into a seamless blend of practicality and elegance. The aim was to create a functional flow from the property to the garden, with distinct areas for entertainment and relaxation.

Before and After Comparison

Before:

  • Uneven and disconnected garden areas
  • Limited functionality
  • Outdated steps with poor visual integration

After:

  • Two spacious natural stone patios with a cohesive layout
  • Seamless access between the house and garden via steps
  • Defined levels and areas for relaxing and entertaining

Materials Used

  1. Natural Stone:
    • Used in a mix of sizes for a traditional random pattern layout.
  2. Gravel Border:
    • Decorative gravel used along edges for drainage and crisp, clean finish.
  3. MOT Type 1 Sub-Base:
    • Compacted to provide a stable foundation beneath the paving.

Construction Stages

  1. Excavation & Ground Prep
    • We started by excavating both patio areas and installing a compacted MOT Type 1 sub-base to ensure long-term durability and proper drainage.
  2. Step Integration
    • New stone steps were built to provide smooth access between the different levels. We used solid sandstone block risers and carefully matched treads for continuity.
  3. Natural Stone Installation
    • The patios were laid using calibrated natural stone in a traditional mixed-sized pattern, this offered a clean and classic finish with natural variation and texture.
  4. Edge Detailing
    • Natural stone walling blocks were used for planters and small retaining areas, neatly tying in with the patio and complementing the garden beds.
  5. Lighting & Borders
    • Decorative gravel and sleek garden lighting were added to enhance visibility and provide a stylish frame around the edges of the patios.

Conclusion

The finished result is a beautifully installed double patio that adds structure and flow to the garden. With one zone leading directly from the property and the other forming a raised platform ideal for dining or lounging, the design strikes a perfect balance between functionality and aesthetics. The natural stone gives the space a timeless, high-end look that will age beautifully over time.
