Modena 50 Block Paved Driveway in Middleton
This project was a complete overhaul for a homeowner in Middleton. The goal was to replace a large, failing paved area with a durable and visually striking block paved driveway, using high-quality Modena 50 blocks to create a rich, textured finish.
Before
The existing driveway was made of large, light-coloured paving slabs that had become extensively cracked, uneven, and weathered over time. The dated appearance did little to enhance the property and the failing surface was becoming a trip hazard.
Demolition & Groundwork
The first, crucial step was to break up and remove the entirety of the old, cracked paving slabs. Our team used a mini-digger to efficiently clear the site and excavate the ground to the required depth, ensuring we had a solid, uniform base to build upon.
Creating a Robust Foundation
With the old material gone, we laid a substantial MOT Type 1 hardcore sub-base over a heavy-duty membrane. This foundation was then thoroughly compacted with a wacker plate to create an incredibly stable base, essential for preventing any future sinking or movement.
Laying & Finishing
A screeded layer of sand was prepared before our team began meticulously laying the Modena 50 blocks. The main body was laid first, followed by the precise installation of the contrasting border. We also constructed a new, matching doorstep for a seamless transition into the home. Once all blocks were cut and fitted, kiln-dried sand was brushed into the joints and compacted to lock everything firmly in place.
