Project Overview – Porcelain Patio Installation in Clitheroe
This project in Clitheroe involved the removal of a tired, weathered patio and the installation of a stunning new porcelain patio, finished with a crisp charcoal block edge. The goal was to modernise the outdoor space with a clean, durable surface that complements the home’s exterior and offers easy maintenance year-round.
Before and After Comparison
Before:
- The original patio consisted of older stone flags that had become discoloured, uneven, and outdated. Despite offering some usable space, it lacked the modern appeal and sharp lines the client desired for this outdoor area.
After:
- The transformation is striking. We installed kindle grey porcelain slabs with precision, complemented by a charcoal brick edge that defines the layout beautifully. The sleek finish instantly lifts the space, making it feel brighter, more spacious, and far more contemporary. The smooth surface not only looks great but also offers excellent durability and slip resistance.
Materials Used
- Porcelain Slabs
- MOT Type 1 Sub-Base
- SBR Bonder
Construction Stages
- Uplift & Site Excavation:
- We began by lifting the existing patio and excavating the area to the correct depth. All materials were removed and responsibly disposed of.
- Sub-Base Installation:
- A new compacted sub-base of MOT Type 1 was laid to provide a strong foundation. Levels and drainage falls were carefully checked to ensure longevity and surface water management.
- Laying the Porcelain Slabs:
- Each porcelain slab was laid on a full mortar bed using an SBR bonding agent for maximum adhesion. The kindle grey slabs were laid in a staggered pattern to enhance the modern aesthetic.
- Edging Installation:
- To frame the patio, charcoal block paving was installed around the perimeter. This not only adds a decorative edge but also provides structural integrity to the layout.
- Pointing & Finishing Touches:
- The joints were pointed using a high-quality, weather-resistant jointing compound, and the area was thoroughly cleaned to reveal the fresh, modern finish.
Conclusion
This patio transformation in Clitheroe has completely revitalised the outdoor space. The kindle grey porcelain tiles offer a luxurious yet practical finish, perfect for entertaining or relaxing. The contrast of the charcoal edging brings definition and balance to the design, delivering a smart and stylish result that the client was thrilled with.
