🏗 Project Overview
This project involved a full before and after transformation of a sloped residential driveway in Rawtenstall, replacing a worn, uneven surface with a clean, durable machine-laid tarmac driveway, finished with double block paving borders around the entire perimeter.
The customer wanted a smart, low-maintenance driveway that improved access, drainage, and kerb appeal while maintaining strong edge definition to frame the driveway neatly against surrounding gardens and pathways.
The finished result delivers a smooth, professional surface with crisp block borders that elevate the overall appearance and ensure long-term structural stability.

The transformation delivers a dramatic improvement from a tired and uneven surface to a sleek, modern driveway that enhances both practicality and appearance. The double block borders frame the driveway perfectly while providing long-term strength and durability.
1️⃣ Excavation & Site Preparation
The existing surface was fully excavated and removed, including old materials and unstable ground. Levels were reprofiled to improve drainage and ensure safe gradients across the sloping driveway.
All waste material was removed from site, leaving a clean footprint ready for construction.
2️⃣ Geotextile Membrane Installation
A heavy-duty geotextile membrane was installed across the driveway to prevent ground movement and contamination between soil layers. This improves long-term stability and prevents future sinking or rutting.
3️⃣ Hardcore Sub-Base Installation
A reinforced Type 1 MOT hardcore sub-base was installed and compacted in layers using mechanical compaction equipment. This creates a strong foundation capable of supporting regular vehicle traffic while maintaining consistent levels.
4️⃣ Double Block Paving Borders
Decorative double block paving borders were installed around the full perimeter of the driveway and securely bedded into concrete. These borders lock the tarmac in place, prevent edge breakdown, and provide a clean visual frame to the driveway layout.
The colour choice complements the property’s stonework and surrounding landscaping beautifully.
5️⃣ Tarmac Installation & Power Rolling
A fresh layer of high-quality machine-laid tarmac was installed and power rolled to achieve a smooth, durable finish. The surface was carefully levelled to ensure proper water runoff while maintaining clean transitions to pathways and access points.
6️⃣ Final Clean & Inspection
The driveway was fully cleaned, edges inspected, and all finishing details checked to ensure a flawless handover ready for immediate use.
